4 Bad Habits That Can Ruin Your Air-conditioner

4 Bad Habits That Can Ruin Your Air-conditioner

Many homes have air-conditioning (AC) units, which is a blessing given Malaysia’s hot, humid weather. While it is a luxury, many people are guilty of misusing or neglecting their AC.

Here are four bad habits to avoid if you don’t wish to have to install a new AC unit.

1. Neglecting your filters

A dirty filter will shorten the overall lifespan of your AC as well as decrease the air quality in your home. Change or clean your filters up to four times a year.

2. Not inspecting your AC

Your AC unit could be working harder than it needs to. Get a professional to inspect your AC for signs of compromised insulation or air leakage.

You should also check the air vents to make sure nothing is restricting the airflow. An accumulation of dust, dirt and other debris can reduce efficiency.

3. Changing the temperature while your AC is running

It is best to select the temperature prior to turning your unit on, rather than change the temperature while it is running. Your unit has to work at peak condition to adjust to new settings.

4. Poor overall maintenance

Maintenance should be done yearly even if your AC is running perfectly well. Forgoing maintenance could lead to problems later on. It is recommended that you fix small problems before they turn into big ones.
